Job Summary

As a Deckhand with Ingram Marine Group, you will play a critical role in the safe and efficient operation of our fleet. This position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the deck crew in the preparation and maintenance of vessels, including tasks such as laying wires, tightening ratchets, and sweeping barges.
  • Perform daily vessel housekeeping duties, including sweeping, mopping, and cleaning crew living quarters.
  • Assist with locking and securing vessels, as well as carrying and storing equipment.
  • Work outdoors for extended periods in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
  • Conduct regular inspections of barges to identify potential issues, including water and leaks, which may require climbing into confined spaces.
  • Participate in the upkeep of vessel appearance, including washing, chipping, and painting.
  • Assist the Engineer as needed, and practice safe crew, vessel, and tow operation using Ingram safety systems.
  • Participate in safety drills and audits, and perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Requirements
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of Ingram's safety standards and protocols.
  • Ability to work away from home for extended periods, up to 28 days at a time.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, and respond quickly to unexpected situations.
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills, with the ability to demonstrate teamwork and acceptance of diversity.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
