Position Overview:

The Office of the University Ombuds is seeking a part-time University Ombuds to join our team. This role is pivotal in safeguarding the rights and interests of students, faculty, and staff across the university. As a neutral and confidential resource, the Ombuds will assist members of the university community in navigating policies and procedures, while adhering to the ethical standards set forth by the International Ombuds Association (IOA).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide impartial guidance and support to university constituents on a variety of issues.
  • Facilitate informal investigations and mediation to resolve conflicts and grievances.
  • Maintain confidentiality and foster a safe environment for all individuals seeking assistance.
  • Work collaboratively with other Ombuds to ensure comprehensive support for the university community.
  • Utilize extensive knowledge of university policies and resources to offer appropriate referrals.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • A Bachelor's degree accompanied by four years of relevant experience in higher education.
  • Proven knowledge of university structures, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in mediation or dispute resolution.
  • Ability to engage effectively with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Commitment to promoting inclusivity and understanding different perspectives.

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree beyond a bachelor's.
  • Experience in conflict resolution or negotiation processes.
  • Familiarity with relevant state laws affecting Ombuds operations.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license or ability to obtain one.
