Job Description

**Project Engineer/Project Manager Role**

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Marine Construction Project Leader to join our team at Southwest Shipyard - Galveston focused on the construction of new barges and vessels. The successful candidate will play a critical role in overseeing and coordinating all aspects of new construction projects, from initial design through final delivery, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

**Responsibilities:**

  • Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, schedule, and resource allocation for the new construction of barges and vessels.
  • Collaborate with design and engineering teams to ensure designs meet regulatory and company standards, and facilitate problem-solving for any technical challenges that arise.
  • Monitor project budgets, approve expenditures, and manage cost control measures to ensure financial goals are met.
  • Ensure all construction meets rigorous quality standards, perform site inspections, and enforce compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain project timelines, oversee daily operations, and manage internal and external resources to ensure timely project milestones.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, contractors, and other external stakeholders, negotiating contracts, monitoring performance, and managing relationships.
  • Maintain detailed records of project progress, prepare regular status reports, and provide updates to senior management and clients.
Requirements

**Education and Experience:**

  • Bachelor's degree in Marine, Industrial, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering; equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Familiarity with CAD software, MS Project, or similar project management tools.
  • Experience with marine engineering practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent is a plus.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience, preferably in the maritime industry.

**Skills and Abilities:**

  • Good judgment skills and a high-level work initiative.
  • Able to work independently, without direct supervision and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interface with Customers and all management levels.
  • Able to understand and abide by all company rules, policies and procedures.
  • Must be eligible to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).

**Salary and Benefits:

The estimated annual salary for this position is $90,000-$120,000 depending on experience. Additionally, the position offers competitive benefits, including comprehensive health insurance, 401(k)/Retirement Savings, paid-time off/holidays, and career path opportunities.
