JOB SUMMARY

The Crewing Coordinator coordinates G&H Towing crew watch change processes, practices, and systems which support keeping vessels crewed with properly credentialed and qualified mariners

KEY INTERACTIONS

G&H employees, G&H executive leadership, senior client leadership, mariners, industry associates, and 3rd party vendors. Works closely with Human Resources and payroll departments.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure that vessels are crewed in all ports of operation based on business need
  • Fleet must be crewed in a manner that keeps as many vessels operational (24) hours as possible.
  • Manage mariners who are in the training program – assign them to vessels and monitor progress, constantly rotating trainees between classes of vessels.
  • Meets regularly with port captains & port engineers to review crewing assignments. The crewing coordinator will have prepared the crewing action plan prior to the meeting
  • Variables that the crewing coordinator will encounter include unexpected mariner absences, vessels out of service (planned and unplanned), mariners needed in the shipyard, crews needed for transit of vessels between ports or between ports and shipyards, and an increased need in the number of operational vessels

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • A High school diploma or GED is required; an advanced degree is preferred; extensive experience may be considered in lieu of education
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the maritime industry preferred
  • Requires proficiency with computer hardware and software to include Microsoft Office applications, using a computer with a keyboard and mouse, navigation with a web browser, checking and sending email, and use of internet search engines

REQUIRED LICENSURE & CERTIFICATIONS

  • An active and valid driver's license
  • A valid merchant mariner credential: officer endorsements such as a master, chief engineer, or mate is preferred
  • A Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) or the ability to obtain a TWIC is preferred

  • Full scope understanding of U.S. Coast Guard credential requirements for vessel crewmembers onboard inspected towing vessels

  • Must be a team player and support the mission, vision, and goals of G&H Towing and the department
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot, test resolutions, and escalate common issues

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work hours will be assigned based on business needs however, work hours will typically be Monday-Friday from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. By request from the department manager or department director, work hours may include irregular hours such as evenings, weekends, and holidays to assist in completing special tasks or assignments
  • Out-of-regional travel may be required to attend training, seminars, or work-related events
  • Work will be performed in the office or remote setting if the job can support remote work and is approved by the department manager and department director or executive

SPECIAL PROJECTS

  • Assist the management and or executive team when requested to complete special projects and complete all assignments within a negotiated time frame established by the department manager
  • Completion of other duties as assigned by the department manager as it relates to the program and position
