Job Summary:
The Executive Director of Hospice Operations is responsible for the overall day-to-day operations of the hospice services at Skilled Nursing Facility. This key leadership role requires a strong understanding of healthcare management, business operations, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement operational plans and budgets to ensure the financial stability and growth of the hospice services.
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements, including Medicare Hospice Certification.
- Monitor business operations to identify areas for improvement and implement changes as needed.
- Evaluate hospice services and personnel using measurable outcomes and objectives.
- Manage conflicts and complaints in a fair and timely manner.
- Establish and maintain effective channels of communication with staff, patients, and families.
- Ensure that hospice personnel stay current with clinical information and practices.
- Develop and implement staff development programs, including orientation, inservice, continuing education, competency testing, and quality assessment performance improvement.
- Ensure that interdisciplinary care is provided to patients and families.
- Ensure that supportive services are available to personnel.
- Coordinate with other departments, services, and senior management as needed.
- Stay current on national and local hospice issues and trends.
- Develop and implement service policies and procedures to accomplish identified outcomes.
- Direct staff in the performance of their duties, including admission, discharge, transfer, revocation, and provision of service to patients.
- Ensure appropriate staff supervision during all service hours.
- Monitor service utilization to ensure delivery of comprehensive care.
- Ensure that services provided by other agencies are authorized by hospice.
- Monitor operational progress toward accomplishing operational and strategic goals.
- Ensure that appropriate data collection and regular, complete reports are received by the Governing Body.
- Ensure that adequate space, equipment, and supplies are available.
- Ensure that actionable objectives are derived from evaluation of hospice services and personnel.
- Ensure that structure and systems promote interdisciplinary care.
- Collaborate with agencies and vendors for effective management of services.
- Ensure that standards of ethical business and clinical practice are maintained.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field.
- Masters degree in healthcare or related field preferred.
- Two to five years experience in healthcare management.
- Ability to supervise and direct professional and administrative personnel.
- Ability to deal tactfully with the community.
- Knowledge of corporate business management.
- Understanding of hospice care and the services provided to patients and families through an interdisciplinary group.
- Intimate knowledge of Medicare Hospice Certification.
