Job Overview

The Christman Company is seeking a highly skilled Assistant Project Superintendent to join our team in the greater Southeast Michigan region. As a key member of our project management team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of our construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the day-to-day functions of the Project Superintendent to ensure projects are constructed safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Perform safety audits and lead all safety measures on the project site, including the trades and subcontractors.
  • Provide direct supervision of hourly field employees in areas such as carpentry, concrete, and general labor.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of hourly labor timesheets.
  • Maintain knowledge of miscellaneous materials required for safety efforts and materials for self-performed work, coordinating procurement through the field office staff.
  • Produce and distribute Daily Reports accurately.
  • Maintain awareness of shop drawing information and oversee correct installations based on contract documents and shop drawings/submittals.
  • Assist in implementing and executing our Quality Assurance Program.
  • Schedule work activities by producing look-ahead schedules and work with the project team to update and/or create the project master schedule.
  • Participate in jobsite subcontractor and Owner/Architect/Contractor meetings to stay informed about schedule and potential changes to the work.
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree in Construction Management or a related field.
  • Completion of a trade school or apprenticeship program in a related job field.
  • Three (3) years of work experience in a related job field.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Prior experience as a construction foreman or equivalent role.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Familiarity with site requirements, tools, methods, and materials covering the full range of trade divisions.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and organize tasks while completing work within established deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly motivated, passionate, and creative team player with ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with all levels.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of health and safety laws.
  • Outstanding decision-making skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project, as well as Procore and Building Information Modeling (BIM).

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The majority of work is completed outside at the construction site and in an office trailer where the project is monitored, and daily decisions are made about construction activities. The position is often exposed to sounds and loud noises, such as construction equipment. The job requires the wearing of protective equipment when on the construction site (hardhats, safety glasses, and highly visible clothing). Temperatures and conditions may vary depending on the weather and seasons.
