Job Title: Assistant Project Manager

Job Summary:

The Assistant Project Manager plays a crucial role in the construction project team, assisting the Project Manager and Project Superintendent in managing and coordinating construction activities. This role requires a strong understanding of construction project management principles and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce and organize project documents, ensuring they are readily accessible for team members.
  • Prepare project documents for close-out, turnover, and archiving to facilitate efficient final compilation and delivery on schedule.
  • Assist the Project Manager with specific aspects of the closeout process.
  • Compile project billing according to established contractual requirements, including timely receipt of waivers.
  • Accurately summarize important discussions, questions, and decisions raised during regular project team meetings, owner meetings, and weekly subcontractor meetings.
  • Assist the Project Superintendent in identifying and listing incomplete work items based on comparison of contract documents to work-in-place in each area and for each trade contractor.
  • Partner with clients and architects to establish punch list contents.
  • Utilize current technology to expedite the punch list process, ensuring completion within 30 days after substantial completion.
  • Assist the Project Manager with identifying necessary inspections, create project-specific inspection log according to Christman standards, establish relationships with inspectors, schedule inspections, and ensure readiness for inspection.
  • Oversee all procurement, material tracking, inspection, and on-site storage.
  • Update contract drawings to reflect all approved changes and ensure trade contractor document updates.
  • Monitor quality of work and compliance with construction documents, as assigned by the Project Superintendent.
  • Assist Superintendents with daily reports and manage all progress and quality photos.
  • Post all required safety information and signage to inform all workers and site visitors about site hazards and confirm appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn at all times.
  • Model safety awareness and planning at all times while observing safety practices and report any concerns to the Project Superintendent or Project Manager.
  • Support the logistics process for all safety initiatives listed in the site-specific safety plan.
  • As assigned, serve as a peer coach to newly hired Project Engineers and/or Assistant Project Managers.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum five (3) years of commercial construction experience in a leadership role reflecting progressive leadership responsibilities.
  • OR Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

The majority of work is completed outside at the construction site and in an office trailer where the project is monitored, and daily decisions are made about construction activities. The position is often exposed to sounds and loud noises, such as construction equipment. The job requires the wearing of protective equipment when on the construction site (hardhats, safety glasses, and highly visible clothing). Temperatures and conditions may vary depending on the weather and seasons.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to occasionally stand, walk, sit, reach (with hands and arms), climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must be able to talk, hear, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, be able to use a telephone and operate a keyboard.
  • Be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
