Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented individual capable of executing intricate clerical and financial tasks. This role involves reviewing, processing, and investigating specialized records that have significant financial implications within an automated office setting. The ideal candidate will assist in managing the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) billing system, focusing on ensuring that all funds owed to the County are collected from insurance providers, Medicare, Medicaid, and other relevant entities. Maintaining effective communication with the County Attorney's Office is essential for the collection of outstanding funds and addressing issues related to various cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough research, verification, and updates to ensure the accuracy of information within the medical billing system and the Sunstar Membership Program.
  • Process medical billing claims efficiently.
  • Analyze medical cases to determine appropriate billing procedures for Medicare, Medicaid, insurance companies, or other agencies, ensuring timely collection of funds.
  • Facilitate legal, STAT, and records requests from patients and their representatives.
  • Collaborate closely with vendors to ensure accurate claims processing.
  • Assist with patient service inquiries and walk-ins.
  • Interpret medical data from run reports and apply correct medical coding.
  • Handle credit card payments received via mail or phone.
  • Process cash and check payments from customers, issuing receipts as needed.
  • Prepare detailed reports and undertake special projects as required.
  • Conduct audits and reviews of accounts, performing complex case-related functions as necessary.
  • Investigate and resolve issues related to misapplied funds or dormant accounts.
  • Support supervisory roles by addressing staff or customer issues and managing workload assignments.
  • Perform various tasks associated with an automated office environment.
  • Execute other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experienced in utilizing various automated software applications.
  • Able to work independently in a hybrid schedule post-training.
  • Willingness to engage in customer service and administrative tasks, including emergency situations.

Position Levels

Medical Billing Specialist 1

  • Minimum of three years' experience in medical billing, claim analysis, denial review, or related functions; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Medical Billing Specialist 2

  • Minimum of five years' experience in medical billing, claim analysis, denial review, or related functions; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in medical billing or coding.
  • Ability to work independently and self-motivate.
  • Understanding of legal processes related to Probate, Bankruptcy, and other documentation.
  • High attention to detail and fast, accurate data entry skills.
  • Experience with numbers and financial data.
  • Familiarity with Zoll, RescueNet billing software.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, Medicare, and Medicaid regulations.
  • Experience with insurance eligibility verification through various platforms.
