POSITION TYPE:
Full-Time

WORK ARRANGEMENT:
Hybrid (Office presence required once a week, with site visits as necessary)

SALARY RANGE:
Starting salary up to $160,000 for level 3 candidates; level 4 candidates may receive a starting salary of $200,000, with additional compensation discussed during the offer process.

ROLE SUMMARY:

We are in search of a proficient and seasoned Substation Structural Engineer to become an integral part of the Paxon team, contributing to the design, analysis, and enhancement of substation structures.

In this role, you will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to guarantee the safety, stability, and reliability of both proposed and existing electrical substation infrastructure. Your expertise will be vital in the successful execution of high-voltage electrical initiatives and the provision of sustainable energy solutions.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Structural Design and Analysis:

    Conduct structural evaluations, calculations, and simulations to ensure the robustness and stability of substation structures, including foundations, steel frameworks, and equipment supports.

    Employ engineering software to analyze factors such as load distribution, wind forces, seismic activity, and temperature fluctuations, ensuring adherence to applicable codes and standards.

  • Project Collaboration:

    Engage with teams of electrical engineers, civil engineers, and project managers to create efficient and dependable substation designs.

    Provide insights during both conceptual and detailed design stages to refine structural configurations and material choices.

  • Regulatory Compliance and Quality Control:

    Ensure all designs and analyses conform to industry standards, codes, and regulations pertinent to structural engineering in substations.

    Conduct thorough quality assurance checks and reviews of design documentation to minimize errors and guarantee precision.

  • Technical Documentation:

    Generate detailed technical reports, design specifications, and drawings for substation structures, emphasizing key calculations, assumptions, and recommendations.

  • Innovation and Problem Resolution:

    Identify avenues for innovation in substation design, construction methodologies, and materials to improve project efficiency, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.

    Tackle complex engineering challenges and devise creative solutions to unforeseen issues that may emerge throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Construction Assistance:

    Work closely with construction teams during the implementation phase, addressing any design-related inquiries or challenges that arise during the construction of substation structures.

    Conduct site inspections to ensure construction aligns with approved design specifications.

  • Professional Development:

    Remain informed about industry advancements, emerging technologies, and updates in codes and regulations related to substation structural engineering.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must possess the following:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline with a focus on structural engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in structural engineering, specifically in high-voltage substations.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and analysis of substation structures, including foundations, steel supports, and equipment platforms.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software such as SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, or similar tools.
  • A strong grasp of relevant industry codes and standards, including IEEE, IEC, ASCE, and ACI.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for technical documentation and project coordination.

Compliance with safety standards and understanding of client Transmission, Distribution, and Contractor Safety Handbook requirements is essential.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification in structural engineering.
