Position Summary:
The Senior Director of Project Engineering will oversee the design, analysis, and structural evaluations of significant transportation-related infrastructures, including elevated, ground-level, and subterranean stations, as well as excavation support for deep construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and manage the work plan for the Project Engineering Facilities or Systems group, ensuring adherence to budgetary and scheduling constraints.
2. Collaborate with fellow Engineering Directors to prioritize and monitor departmental projects, assigning personnel as necessary.
3. Supervise the Project Engineering Facilities or Systems group in reviewing consultant work, cost proposals, and development of work plans.
4. Formulate work scopes and negotiate contracts with consultants, overseeing their engineering design activities.
5. Direct engineering and architectural efforts related to the design and construction of major transit facilities, including bus and rail systems.
6. Ensure compliance with environmental engineering activities, including site assessments and regulatory adherence.
7. Manage projects associated with ADA compliance and other federal, state, and local regulations.
8. Investigate project challenges and propose solutions to mitigate future issues.
9. Validate design performance through detailed testing and ensure compliance with engineering standards.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline; a Master's Degree is preferred.
- Minimum of five years of management-level experience in engineering design and construction for major public agency projects.
- Preferred: California registration as a Professional Engineer or Architect.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in structural analysis and design of major transportation facilities.
- Proficiency in planning and reviewing transportation-related structures.
- Strong communication skills for presenting complex structural issues effectively.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Comprehensive understanding of engineering principles, contemporary construction methods, and applicable regulations.
- Ability to lead and manage a team of engineers and architects, ensuring effective project execution.
- Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings and making informed decisions regarding project safety and compliance.
