The Patient Experience Specialist (PES) role is a full-time position with daytime hours from Monday to Friday.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Patient Experience Specialist (PES) is responsible for guiding patients through their journey at the health center, ensuring that our commitment to equitable, high-quality, and compassionate care is reflected in every interaction.

The PES ensures adherence to medical protocols, policies, and affiliate standards. As necessary, the PES conducts assessments, provides patient education, and facilitates referrals to community resources.

The PES treats all patients with dignity and respect, empowering them to make informed choices about their health and supporting them in building healthy futures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Welcome patients and visitors warmly, both in person and over the phone, to enhance their overall experience.
  • Accurately document patient information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) during visits and maintain thorough records of phone interactions.
  • Adhere to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to protect patient privacy and respond promptly to any potential breaches.
  • Provide clear, factual, and supportive patient education, addressing inquiries about health services in a neutral manner.
  • Conduct pre/post-education for patients requesting STI/HIV screenings and maintain confidentiality while collecting statistical data.
  • Perform in-house tests and measurements accurately and efficiently, including rapid HIV tests, urinalysis, and other assessments.
  • Collect and process specimens for laboratory testing promptly, ensuring accurate patient information is logged.
  • Collaborate with management to ensure all clerical duties are completed accurately and timely, including patient visits and chart management.
  • Follow Class D Pharmacy regulations when handling medications, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
  • Manage daily cash procedures with accuracy and address discrepancies immediately.
  • Refer patients to appropriate medical and social services as needed.
  • Work with clinicians to follow up on abnormal lab results and high-risk patients.
  • Maintain inventory management procedures for supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure the health center environment is clean, organized, and equipped to support patient needs.
  • Assist clinicians during patient examinations as required.
  • Engage in efforts to meet established productivity and revenue cycle goals.
  • Adhere to organizational policies regarding professionalism and patient complaint resolution.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Comply with the organization's House Rules as part of the training and performance standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or GED is required; some college education is preferred. Medical Assistant certification is a plus.

Experience: 3-5 years of customer service experience is highly desirable, with at least one year in a healthcare role preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Exceptional customer service skills to ensure a positive patient experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
  • Proficient in general computer use, with the ability to maintain accurate Electronic Health Records (EHR).
  • Demonstrated competence and attention to detail.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
  • Culturally sensitive and competent regarding diverse populations.
  • Comfortable discussing sexual and reproductive health issues.
  • Committed to supporting patients' rights to make informed health care decisions.
