Job Overview

Baker Ravenel & Bender, a prominent firm with a century-long legacy in litigation, is seeking a certified Litigation Support Specialist. This role is essential to the trial team, overseeing all aspects of the trial process, from initial investigations to pleadings and discovery.

The Litigation Support Specialist collaborates closely with attorneys, providing assistance in depositions, preparing witnesses, and conducting thorough research. This position is pivotal in preparing and managing all exhibits and serves as an aide to the attorney during court proceedings. After the trial concludes, the Litigation Support Specialist will ensure the proper closure of case documentation.

Educational Qualifications

  • Certification as a paralegal from an ABA-approved program, with a specialization in litigation.

Core Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analyze legal sources, including statutes, judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, and codes, to prepare essential legal documents such as briefs and pleadings for attorney use.
  • Draft standard legal documents for attorney review and utilization.
  • Compile and prepare draft responses for discovery requests.
  • Review and interpret data; analyze reports and records provided by opposing counsel.
  • Facilitate communication between all parties involved in litigation, ensuring consistent updates with clients and attorneys throughout the case.

Daily Tasks

  • Organize, prepare, and file legal documents and correspondence.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research.
  • Maintain and update internal databases.
  • Prepare materials necessary for case preparation.
  • Organize relevant documents for attorney review.
  • Attend and prepare for depositions.
  • Organize and prepare exhibits for depositions.
  • File all necessary court documents.
  • Possess a minimum of two years of litigation experience along with strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Responsibilities include drafting correspondence and pleadings, summarizing depositions and discovery responses, maintaining client files (both physical and electronic), subpoenaing medical records, preparing medical chronologies, and coordinating attorneys' schedules for appointments, hearings, and mediations.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word is essential, along with a Paralegal Certificate.
