Job Title: Police Records Supervisor

Join the City of Watauga, TX team as a Police Records Supervisor, where you will play a vital role in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of police records. As a key member of the Police Department, you will oversee the management of records systems, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and oversee the Police Department's records systems, ensuring accuracy and integrity of records.
  • Administer Police records management using Spillman, Crimes and RMS records management programs in conjunction with the Cities of North Richland Hills, Haltom and Richland Hills due to shared services operations.
  • Provide training and assistance as needed in regards to the Public Information Act and Records Retention Schedule and Records Management System.
  • Ensure compliance with various local, state and federal laws, codes and regulations.
  • Supervise staff; hires and trains employees; assigns and monitors work; evaluates staff; initiates discipline as necessary.
  • Participate in the development of the operating budget; provides statistical reports in support of the budget development process.
  • Prepare various recurring and special reports on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis.
  • Retrieve and disseminate records information to various staff, external law enforcement agencies and the general public.
  • Perform audits of records and the work of staff.
  • Ensure the accurate and safe storage of the records of criminal investigations for use in court.
  • Ensure that technologies are investigated and implemented to improve service and reduce the need for unnecessary manual information processing.
  • Serve as Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC):
    • Maintain current policy, procedures, audits, quality control and training of all CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Center) users.
    • Ensure the agency's NCIC (National Crime Information Center), ORI Originating Agency Identifier or QR (Query Records) file is correct and up to date.
    • Ensure that all TLETS terminals are secure from unauthorized viewing or use.
    • Ensure training for all users and maintains records for TCIC/NCIC/FBI audits.
  • Serve as Local Security Officer (LASO):
    • Work with technical staff (Information Technology) to ensure compliance of system security.
    • Maintain current status of trends and changes in security that impacts the agency.
  • Serve as Administrator of:
    • Evertell (Communication System for cell phone data) and Senate Bill 944 compliance.
    • VICAP (Violent Crime Apprehension Program )(required of the department by FBI).
    • LEEP (Law Enforcement Enterprise Portal- Police records).
    • NIBRS (National Incident Reporting System).
  • Serve as contact for CAD/RMS (Computer Aided Dispatch/ Records Management System Issues not pertaining to Information Technology.
  • Complete Video Redaction.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • May perform other assignments and handle special projects as required.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent; AND five (5) years of experience, including two (2) years of supervisory experience, in law enforcement technical operations and administrative management.
  • Associates degree preferred.
  • Public Information Act Training.
  • Must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.
