We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief of Staff to join our Medical Affairs team at Apellis Pharmaceuticals. As a key advisor to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), you will play a critical role in setting and delivering the overarching Medical Affairs strategic plan.
Key Responsibilities- Facilitate and manage a broad range of projects to support attainment of strategic priorities and corporate goals.
- Assist the CMO and Medical Leadership team in developing and communicating Medical Affairs strategy and its components internally and externally.
- Work with the leadership team to develop goals, monitor and report progress, and triage and escalate issues as appropriate.
- Lead CMO-LT meetings, town halls, and support team structure, development, and engagement discussions.
- Design and execute initiatives for cohesion, ensuring alignment and engagement among teams and departments.
- Support the CMO in preparing annual budget planning and managing the annual operating cycle.
- Develop and prepare executive-level presentations for internal and external meetings and presentations.
- Support the CMO and PV team in safety case management, adjudication, and reconciliation.
- Represent the CMO and Medical Strategy and Evidence Generation on the Portfolio Strategy Leadership Team.
- Identify and prioritize key issues early and expedite resolution by integrating information, analysis, and evaluation.
- Organize and drive the rhythm of decision making and outputs to feed into key meetings and initiatives.
- Influence stakeholders and ensure appropriate prioritization and project management to support business objectives.
- Optimize external engagements for the CMO and ensure transparent communication across relevant teams.
- Ph.D., PharmD, or other advanced scientific degree with a minimum of 10+ years of operating experience in the biopharmaceutical industry.
- Extensive background in Medical Affairs or broad knowledge about drug development and commercialization.
- Demonstrated experience interacting with executive leadership and important external stakeholders.
- High EQ with ability to earn the respect and trust of the CMO, leadership, and cross-functional colleagues.
- Highly skilled at communicating scientific and clinical information within the drug development environment.
- Significant cross-functional leadership capabilities - ability to lead, collaborate, and influence.
