Job Overview

Position Summary:

The primary role of the pharmacist is to accurately dispense medications, manage prescriptions, and deliver essential information to patients and healthcare professionals regarding medication usage and safety. This position also involves providing expert advice to healthcare providers on medication selection, appropriate dosages, potential interactions, and possible side effects.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a valid controlled substance license or be eligible for licensure. It is mandatory to hold a pharmacist license prior to the commencement of employment.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • In-depth understanding of pharmaceuticals, including indications, contraindications, dosing guidelines, side effects, and administration techniques.
  • Familiarity with regulations and procedures governing the distribution of pharmaceutical products.
  • Proficiency in using computers and relevant software tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication capabilities.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively engage with diverse groups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and supervise the preparation and dispensing of prescription medications, ensuring the integrity and quality of pharmaceuticals.
  • Consult with healthcare providers regarding drug indications, contraindications, dosing, interactions, and side effects, while offering additional pharmaceutical information as necessary.
  • Maintain comprehensive records, including pharmacy files, patient profiles, inventories, and control logs, ensuring the secure storage and management of pharmaceuticals.
  • Oversee, mentor, and coordinate the activities of pharmacy technicians.
  • Manage the procurement and distribution of medications across various facilities.
  • Develop, implement, and uphold procedures for the mixing, packaging, and labeling of pharmaceuticals in compliance with policy and legal standards to guarantee quality and safety.

Physical and Environmental Considerations:

This role may involve occasional exposure to challenging physical environments, including high noise levels and temperature variations. There may also be exposure to biohazardous conditions, such as radiation, bloodborne pathogens, and toxic substances, necessitating a strong focus on safety protocols. The position may require travel to various locations and involve physical activities such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Educational Background:

A Bachelor's degree or Pharm D from an accredited pharmacy school is required; work experience cannot substitute for this educational prerequisite.

Licensure Requirements:

Must be licensed as a pharmacist in Mississippi or be eligible for licensure, with the requirement to obtain licensure before the start date of employment.
