Job Overview

Position Summary:

The primary role of the pharmacist is to accurately fill prescriptions, dispense medications, and provide essential information to patients and healthcare professionals regarding the nature and application of pharmaceuticals. This position also involves advising medical practitioners on the selection, dosage, interactions, and potential side effects of various medications.

Qualifications:

Must possess a valid controlled substance license or be eligible for licensure. It is required to be licensed prior to the commencement of employment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • In-depth understanding of pharmaceuticals, including indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and proper administration.
  • Familiarity with policies and procedures governing the distribution of pharmaceutical products.
  • Proficient in using personal computers and relevant software applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and oversee the preparation and dispensing of prescription medications, ensuring the assessment of identity, strength, and purity.
  • Provide expert advice to physicians and healthcare practitioners regarding drug indications/contraindications, dosages, interactions, and side effects; offer additional pharmaceutical information as necessary.
  • Maintain comprehensive records, including pharmacy files, patient profiles, inventories, and control records; ensure the safekeeping of pharmaceuticals through effective storage and recordkeeping systems.
  • Supervise, train, and coordinate the activities of pharmacy technicians.
  • Oversee the procurement and distribution of medications to various locations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain procedures for mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals in accordance with policy and legal standards to guarantee quality, security, and proper disposal.

Physical and Environmental Considerations:

This role may involve occasional exposure to challenging physical environments, including high noise levels and temperature extremes. There may also be occasional exposure to biohazardous conditions, such as radiation, bloodborne pathogens, fumes, or toxic chemicals, necessitating a strong focus on safety. The position may require occasional travel to offsite locations and involve activities subject to significant volume changes.

Education & Experience Requirements:

A Bachelor's degree or Pharm D from an accredited pharmacy school is required; experience cannot substitute for this educational requirement.

Licensure: Must be licensed as a pharmacist in Mississippi or be eligible for licensure. Licensing must be obtained prior to the start date.
