Position Summary:
The role involves accurately processing prescriptions, dispensing medications, and offering guidance to patients and healthcare professionals regarding the use and effects of pharmaceuticals. Additionally, the pharmacist will provide expert advice to medical practitioners on medication selection, appropriate dosages, potential interactions, and adverse effects.
Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a valid controlled substance license or be eligible for licensure. It is essential to hold a pharmacy license prior to commencing employment.
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- In-depth understanding of pharmaceuticals, including their uses, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and administration methods.
- Familiarity with regulations and procedures related to the distribution of pharmaceutical products.
- Proficiency in utilizing computer systems and relevant software.
- Strong verbal and written communication capabilities.
- Interpersonal skills to effectively engage with diverse groups.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and supervise the preparation and dispensing of prescription medications, ensuring the identity, strength, and purity of drugs.
- Advise healthcare providers on drug indications, contraindications, dosages, interactions, and side effects, while providing relevant pharmaceutical information.
- Maintain comprehensive records, including pharmacy files, patient profiles, inventories, and control records, ensuring safe storage and accurate recordkeeping of pharmaceuticals.
- Oversee, train, and coordinate the activities of pharmacy technicians.
- Manage the procurement and distribution of medications to various facilities.
- Develop, implement, and uphold procedures for the mixing, packaging, and labeling of pharmaceuticals in compliance with legal and policy standards to guarantee quality and safety.
Physical and Environmental Considerations:
This position may involve occasional exposure to challenging physical environments, including high noise levels and temperature variations. There may also be risks associated with biohazardous materials, necessitating adherence to safety protocols. Physical demands include occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds, frequent walking, standing, and sitting, as well as various movements such as bending and reaching.
Educational Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree or Pharm D from an accredited pharmacy program is required; experience cannot substitute for this educational requirement.
Licensure: Candidates must be licensed as a pharmacist in Mississippi or be eligible for licensure, with the requirement to obtain licensure before starting the position.
