Position Title: Family Support Specialist

Position Summary:

We are looking for a dedicated and empathetic Family Support Specialist to deliver advocacy and support services to families facing challenges. The Family Support Specialist will collaborate with families to recognize their strengths, needs, and aspirations, while connecting them with essential community resources and services to foster stability, well-being, and independence. The ideal candidate will possess a robust understanding of family dynamics, child development, and available community resources, along with exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.

The Family Support Specialist will be part of the Education, Career, and Enrichment department at the Center for Alternative, focusing on assisting youth and young adults affected by the criminal justice system. The program specifically targets young men aged 16-24 residing in underserved neighborhoods. This role emphasizes the value of having a Family Support Specialist with personal experience as a parent or primary caregiver for youth who have interacted with various systems.


Salary: The annual salary for the Family Support Specialist position is $65,000.

Work Schedule: This is a full-time position, operating Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM.

Workplace Flexibility: Flexible arrangements are available for roles that allow for partial remote work.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Empower families to set and achieve goals that enhance family functioning.
  • Assist families in navigating benefits, housing issues, and obtaining vital documents.
  • Create and maintain resource guides for families to access essential services.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure effective communication and support.
  • Connect parents and caregivers with resources tailored to their specific needs.
  • Document daily activities and maintain accurate records.
  • Engage with external partners who provide services to families and participants.
  • Participate in weekly supervision and team meetings.
  • Adhere to the program's dress code, which includes business casual attire.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • A strong commitment to working with families and young adults affected by the criminal justice system.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with youth workers in the field.
  • A belief in the potential for change among participants, families, and community members.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • FDC or FPA credential or equivalent experience as a primary caregiver.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
