OVERVIEW

The Retail Operations Leader serves as a vital partner to the Store Manager, ensuring that the store operates smoothly and efficiently. Together, they are accountable for the daily management, success, customer satisfaction, and team motivation within the store. The Retail Operations Leader also plays a crucial role in coaching, developing, and inspiring the team, aligning them with JOANN's mission and vision. This position embodies leadership qualities similar to that of a Store Manager, guiding the team with enthusiasm and assurance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

CUSTOMER CONNECTION

  • Builds enduring customer relationships by recognizing and anticipating their needs.
  • Engages with the broader community, acting as a representative for JOANN.
  • Encourages, mentors, and motivates the team to be exemplary brand ambassadors.
  • Maintains a strong knowledge of products and stays informed about new merchandise and trends.

OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

  • Communicates new initiatives, leadership updates, and promotional activities.
  • Ensures flawless execution of operational policies and procedures.
  • Inspires the team to drive sales by exceeding customer expectations.
  • Develops strategic plans and equips the team with the necessary tools to meet performance indicators.
  • Responsible for unloading freight and organizing it according to company standards.

ANALYTICAL THINKING

  • Stays updated on industry trends and seeks innovative ways to remain competitive.
  • Adapts to changes and shifts priorities as necessary.
  • Analyzes sales reports to identify trends and formulates strategies to achieve both personal and store objectives.
  • Utilizes the FAST model to consistently meet sales targets and company goals.

TEAM DEVELOPMENT

  • Mentors and motivates the team to enhance overall store performance.
  • Fosters a culture of continuous learning while promoting teamwork and recognition within the team.
  • Develops in-store talent through succession planning and effective performance management.
  • Networks, recruits, hires, and trains team members using provided onboarding resources.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods during shifts.
  • Requires continuous movement throughout the store.
  • Ability to read instructions and reports on paper and digital screens.
  • Effective verbal communication with customers and team members is essential.
  • Proficient in data entry using computer systems.
  • Must be able to use two-way radios for communication.
  • Ability to push and pull merchandise using appropriate equipment.
  • Must be able to lift and arrange items on shelves and racks.
  • Requires bending and reaching above head.
  • Must be able to climb ladders safely.
  • Ability to lift up to 49 pounds individually and up to 97 pounds with assistance.

SUPERVISORY ROLE

Assists the Store Manager with various responsibilities as deemed appropriate.

AVAILABILITY REQUIREMENTS

This full-time position requires flexible availability, with the ability to work an average of 36 hours per week. Flexibility includes the capacity to work any hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Minimum education requirement: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Minimum experience requirement: 2+ years of relevant retail experience.

  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Competence in managing store budgets and labor levels.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in a retail environment.
  • Skills in recruiting and training new team members.

  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Superior customer service orientation.
  • Proficiency in inventory management and POS software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
