Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Technical Assistant to join our team at SUNY Erie Community College. As a Technical Assistant, you will provide academic support to students, faculty, and staff, and assist with various administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist instructors in classroom and laboratory settings by demonstrating equipment and teaching aids.
  • Administer and/or proctor tests under the direction of an instructor or other faculty member.
  • Work with students in the use of various technical equipment in classroom and laboratory settings.
  • Tutor students on an individual basis in classroom, laboratory, or learning center settings.
  • Assist instructors in maintaining academic records, preparing reports, and other administrative tasks.
  • Requisition, maintain, and issue supplies and equipment to students and faculty.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance on and make minor repairs of apparatus, equipment, and teaching aids.
Additional Responsibilities
  • When assigned to the English Department:
    • Tutor students in reading, writing, and research and study skills.
    • Record students' progress and data pertaining to tutoring and notify instructors.
    • Interview, train, and monitor peer tutors.
    • Schedule and administer pretests with assistance of the Coordinator of Special Services.
    • Proctor and/or assist with proctoring of pretests.
    • Assist faculty in research and development activities.
    • Oversee and schedule lab personnel (peer and other tutors) and activities in the lab and elsewhere.
  • When assigned to the Mathematics Department:
    • Select, train, schedule, and supervise student assistants.
    • Maintain learning center supplies.
    • Provide records and reports as requested by the department and/or administration.
    • Prepare testing materials.
    • Assist in the administration of pretests, registration, and placement of students.
    • Keep accurate records of pretest and placement results.
    • Collect special data requested by the Assistant Chair for Developmental Education.
  • When assigned to the Dental Hygiene Department:
    • Schedule patients.
    • Perform patient check-ins.
    • Transmit radiographs electronically.
    • Maintain accuracy of patient charts.
    • Process instruments in sterilization.
    • Set up demonstrations.
    • Maintain proper levels of supplies in the clinic.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Good knowledge of fundamentals of teaching.
  • Good knowledge of subjects in the academic area in which assigned.
  • Ability to work with and tutor students in academic area in which assigned.
  • Ability to work with students and faculty in an effective manner.
  • Ability to understand and follow detailed oral and written reports.
  • Initiative.

  • Physical capability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Education

A minimum of 60 semester credit hours of study in a related field at a regionally accredited college or university is required. A Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate discipline is preferred for some departments.
