Key Responsibilities:


The Clinical Nurse Specialist is responsible for implementing professional nursing practices that center on the holistic care of patients. The role includes:

  • Upholding the dignity and uniqueness of each patient by honoring their mind, body, and spirit.
  • Utilizing evidence-based practices and current research, alongside hospital policies and regulatory standards, to guide nursing practices.
  • Engaging in critical thinking and creativity throughout all phases of the nursing process.
  • Fostering nursing excellence through collaborative relationships among nursing staff and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Serving as a role model for compassion, acceptance, respect, and empathy, thereby supporting an environment conducive to healing and wellness.
  • Spending the majority of time (over 50%) on direct patient care activities, which include: conducting nursing rounds, performing assessments and treatments, facilitating admissions, transfers, and discharges, providing patient and family-centered education, and coordinating care and individualized treatment plans as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Valid RN licensure or work permit in Kentucky.
  • A Bachelor's or Associate's degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Candidates with an Associate's degree and less than 10 years of experience are required to enroll in a Bachelor's degree program within 12 months of hire and complete the degree within 5 years.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support.
  • ACLS/PALS/NRP certification and successful completion of dysrhythmia class as mandated by the department of assignment.
