Job Title: Shelter Advocate

CAST is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Shelter Advocate to join our team. As a key member of our Empowerment Department, you will provide critical support and crisis intervention to survivors of human trafficking and modern-day slavery.

Job Summary:

The Shelter Advocate will be responsible for providing daily living support and advocacy to shelter residents, including assisting with daily needs, providing general support, and ensuring compliance with program guidelines. This role requires a strong understanding of human rights, a strengths-based approach, and excellent interpersonal and team-building skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the intake process and move-in procedures for incoming residents
  • Respond to hotline calls, perform client intake, and coordinate with clients, staff, and partners to address emergency needs
  • Oversee the daily maintenance and operations of the shelter, including documenting incidents, conducting routine walk-throughs, and managing maintenance issues
  • Provide short-term intervention to help clients receive assistance, resources, stabilization, and support
  • Manage and diffuse conflict between residents, and communicate disputes and issues that require further intervention to the Shelter Program Manager
  • Provide administrative support, including managing the shelter wish list, maintaining inventory, and scheduling interpreters for workshops
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or extensive experience and demonstrated skills and aptitude considered in lieu of education
  • Shelter or group home experience preferred
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish, Arabic, one or more of the API languages)
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision, with strong assessment skills and experience to determine client needs
  • Knowledge of multidisciplinary and multicultural approaches, and ability to maintain a positive, cooperative, and professional demeanor with clients, partner organizations, and staff
