Job Description

The Coalition to Abolish Slavery & Trafficking (CAST) is seeking a Shelter Advocate to provide support and crisis intervention to survivors of human trafficking and modern-day slavery. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing advocacy to survivors in our emergency shelter and hotline, including assisting shelter residents with daily living needs and providing general support and shelter coverage.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the intake process and move in for incoming residents
  • Answer hotline calls from CAST's 24/7 hotline and respond accordingly
  • Perform client intake, screen new referrals, triage needs, create initial action plans, and coordinate with client, CAST staff, and partners to address emergency needs
  • Document all hotline calls in the database
  • Coordinate transportation to the shelter program and manage resident move in and orientation
  • Conduct routine walk-through of the building to ensure the safety of residents and staff
  • Manage the preparation of preparing the beds and rooms for new move ins
  • Conduct and manage the intake orientation for new clients
  • Conduct discharge procedure upon exit
  • Report and manage any maintenance issues that may occur

The Shelter Advocate will also be responsible for providing administrative support that facilitates the day-to-day operations of the shelter, including managing the shelter wish list, maintaining inventory of office supplies, and scheduling interpreters for workshops.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree, or extensive experience and demonstrated skills and aptitude considered in lieu of education. Shelter or group home experience is preferred, and bilingual skills are a plus. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and with minimal supervision, and must be organized, flexible, detail-oriented, and multi-tasking.
