Job Summary

We're seeking a highly skilled Lead Commissioning Engineer to join our team and support our Client Teams across the United States, with a focus on the CA market. As a key member of our team, you'll be responsible for planning, coordinating, and performing commissioning activities for various utility substation protection, control, and power circuits, ensuring compliance with TRC's and Client's requirements, budgets, and schedules.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and perform all commissioning activities, including pre-commissioning, construction, testing, energization, and project close-out, in accordance with TRC's and Client's requirements, budgets, and schedules.
  • Review wiring diagrams, schematics, and engineering documents in advance of projects and outages.
  • Perform troubleshooting and problem analysis associated with protection and control systems and utility substation equipment, including application errors, drawing errors, wiring errors, settings errors, equipment malfunctions, questionable apparatus test results, and battery ground faults.
  • Participate in project meetings, including kickoff meetings, planning meetings, progress meetings, and lessons learned meetings.
  • Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and project completion reports and documentation, including project progress, issues or problems, recommendations, test results, and analyses.
  • Assist in developing project-specific testing and commissioning plans, energization plans, or other assigned project-specific documentation.
  • Identify risks and associated mitigation techniques on utility systems and equipment.
  • Develop a Site Risk Assessment to document high-risk construction and commissioning activities and formalize the processes of circuit isolation and restoration to ensure no unintended operations of station equipment and protection systems and personnel safety.
  • Ensure all applicable tests and/or commissioning activities are performed on every piece of equipment or system in accordance with planning and project documents.
  • Ensure all test results are acceptable and permanently recorded, filed, and distributed properly.
  • Develop detailed test reports of various types of electrical equipment and review and approve detailed test reports of various types of electrical equipment.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical or Power Systems preferred) from an accredited school or University and 10+ years related experience with testing and commissioning services (Electric Utility experience is preferred but will train T-C Engineers with experience in commissioning complex commercial-industrial equipment, including protective relays or other Power Systems Field Engineers with relay knowledge).
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand construction and manufacturer's drawings and specifications as well as schematic diagrams.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical protection systems, including relay communication, and basic understanding of AC and DC schematics, wiring, and drawings, one-line and three-line interconnection diagrams.
  • Prior professional experience in medium and high voltage substation and power plant equipment, perform basic apparatus testing, and interpret test results with supervision.
  • Solid testing and commissioning knowledge of substation utility protection and control circuits, perform commissioning activities, and interpret results with supervision.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to learn commissioning methods to accurately conduct and document commissioning activities.
  • Test experience using Doble Protection Suite and/or ProTest, SEL AcSELerator, Enoserv RTS are highly preferred.
  • Current US work eligibility is required, together with a Valid USA driver's license issued by the state of residence and in good standing.
  • Must be available for out-of-town travel of up to several weeks at a time.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours, weekends, overtime, holidays, and night work.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written skills and be able to communicate and negotiate effectively with clients and Team.

Compensation

In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
