UNIQUE QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

At Miriam's Kitchen, the role of a Security Officer is distinctive. We are dedicated to supporting the chronically homeless population through flexible shifts from early morning to late afternoon. Our clientele often presents a range of mental health challenges, and we seek individuals who possess not only security expertise but also strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with our guests. We highly encourage applications from former or retired law enforcement and military personnel for this impactful position.

Role Summary:

The security personnel at Miriam's Kitchen are tasked with ensuring the safety of the dining area, as well as the protection of staff, volunteers, and patrons. Additionally, they are responsible for securing the external premises of the facility during operational hours to prevent illegal activities and protect property.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Punctuality is essential; participate in brief pre-opening meetings to confirm readiness for client service and monitor guest queues.
  • Screen individuals entering the dining area to prevent banned guests from re-entering.
  • Remain attentive and engaged during service times, alternating patrols of designated areas including the exterior perimeter, dining room entrance, restrooms, and service lines to ensure safety and compliance with established guidelines.
  • Ensure adherence to client guidelines and posted rules.
  • Implement appropriate consequences for guideline violations consistently.
  • Assist in escorting clients who may need to leave the dining area.
  • Facilitate smooth transitions during meal services and monitor activities to ensure a respectful environment.
  • Oversee outdoor areas to ensure compliance with guidelines and proper disposal of waste.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Attendance at organizational meetings and events is expected.

Communication Skills

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues, clients, visitors, and emergency responders to relay information and coordinate actions.

Conflict Resolution & Crisis Management

  • Skill in de-escalating tense situations and resolving conflicts with professionalism.
  • Capacity to maintain composure during emergencies and make informed decisions.

Surveillance Skills & Attention to Detail

  • Proficiency in monitoring surroundings to identify suspicious activities or security threats.
  • Vigilance in recognizing and addressing security vulnerabilities.

Knowledge of Security Protocols

  • Familiarity with security procedures, including access control and emergency response protocols.

Customer Service Orientation

  • Deliver courteous assistance to guests while ensuring a secure environment.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Necessary capabilities to fulfill essential job functions.

Physical Requirements: Regularly required to stand; frequently required to communicate verbally; occasionally required to reach, walk, bend, or lift objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

Mental Requirements: Proficiency in effective communication in English is mandatory.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: This position may involve occasional local travel between sites.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

  • Security staff must wear the designated uniform provided by the organization.
  • Certification in First Aid/CPR/AED is preferred.
  • Bi-lingual candidates (Spanish) are preferred.
  • Veterans and former law enforcement personnel are encouraged to apply.
