Role Responsibilities
The Fire Safety Engineering Specialist will be responsible for:
- Providing fire safety engineering design and production support from project initiation to completion.
- Executing projects utilizing both Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build methodologies.
- Offering technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
- Reviewing the work of other fire safety engineers to ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards.
- Estimating design efforts and providing technical expertise during negotiations with architectural firms and contractors.
- Addressing contractor submissions and requests for information (RFIs).
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- 5+ years of experience in fire safety design and evaluation for new and existing facilities.
- Professional registration as a Licensed Fire Protection Engineer in a U.S. state or territory.
- Comprehensive knowledge of fire protection responsibilities, including fire alarm systems, water-based suppression systems, and special hazard design.
- A Final DoD Secret clearance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The candidate should demonstrate:
- Extensive knowledge of NFPA, ICC, and UFC codes.
- Experience in construction management, scheduling, and cost estimation.
- Competence in developing complete construction documents, including drawings and specifications.
- Experience with field inspections and reviewing installed components.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and other design software.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- A willingness to travel as required.
