About the Role:

The Clinical Pathology Laboratory at Tufts University is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Diagnostic Laboratory Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing a wide range of diagnostic testing procedures, including hematology, clinical chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, and fluid analysis/cytology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform all laboratory testing procedures, including CBC and manual differential, clinical chemistry, coagulation, blood type and crossmatch, and other miscellaneous testing performed by the laboratory.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, including interactions with clinicians, technicians, and students.
  • Assist with clerical tasks, such as sample accessioning, troubleshooting patient test orders, preparing sample shipment to outside labs, documenting laboratory maintenance and QC, writing or reviewing SOPs, and remaining current on email communications.
  • Participate in student/intern/resident education regarding routine diagnostic tests, including answering questions regarding patient samples and lab work, or instruction of students in a setting outside of the diagnostic lab.
  • Work collaboratively with other lab and hospital personnel to ensure timely and accurate test results, while honoring expected turnaround times for patient testing.

Requirements:

  • AS or BS in a science-based program is required for this position.
  • MLT or MT certification and a strong understanding of a wide variety of diagnostic assays, quality control, and troubleshooting is strongly preferred.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience is preferred (in either a human or veterinary diagnostic lab setting).
  • Good communication and organizational skills are essential.
  • The ability to work in a stressful environment, where multiple tasks must be performed simultaneously with accuracy and efficiency, is also required.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team is necessary.
