Position Overview:
Anne Arundel County Government is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional for the role of Director of Audits (Assistant County Auditor). This full-time, permanent position is integral to the Office of the County Auditor and involves advanced responsibilities in governmental auditing and program evaluation.

Key Responsibilities:
This role encompasses a variety of complex auditing and program analysis tasks, including:
1. Serving as the principal auditor responsible for planning and executing audits and special reviews, including compliance assessments and internal control evaluations.
2. Conducting public program analyses, including budget evaluations, and assessing the effectiveness and costs associated with County operations.
3. Assisting in defining departmental activities and methods to achieve objectives, while representing the County Auditor in meetings with key officials.

Professional Standards:
Work is expected to adhere to the highest professional and technical standards. The Director will exercise significant independent judgment and professional expertise in guiding departmental operations. Performance evaluations will be based on observations, discussions, and reviews of work products, including findings and reports.

Supervisory Role:
The Assistant County Auditor distinguishes itself from the Legislative Audit Manager by supporting the Deputy County Auditor in reviewing and evaluating audits and investigations to ensure compliance with professional standards. This position also involves supervising a team of professional analysts and auditors, providing guidance and support to achieve departmental goals.

Essential Qualifications:
1. Extensive knowledge of auditing principles, practices, and standards, including generally accepted accounting principles and government auditing standards.
2. Familiarity with the organization, functions, and policies of County government and related agencies.
3. Strong analytical skills to review complex budget requests and operational proposals.

Education and Experience:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in accounting or finance is required, along with seven years of experience in governmental or public accounting and auditing. Certification as a public accountant or a master's degree in a related field is preferred.

Additional Information:
Preference will be given to candidates with performance auditing experience of governmental entities, supervisory experience, and strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
