Position Overview:
The Social Science Research Specialist 2 plays a crucial role within the School of Medicine, contributing to the Division of Oncology's mission to integrate fundamental science with clinical practices in cancer treatment. This position is focused on supporting health services and clinical research initiatives utilizing community-based participatory research methodologies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the design and execution of research experiments, demonstrating independent initiative and sound judgment.
  • Refine and adapt experimental protocols under general supervision, ensuring the integrity of research processes.
  • Analyze and interpret data through scientific and statistical methods, contributing to the advancement of research objectives.
  • Make informed decisions that influence research direction and outcomes, providing valuable contributions to the overall project.
  • Co-author sections of research publications and regulatory documents as necessary.
  • Manage project-related administrative tasks, including budget oversight within a limited scope.
  • Provide guidance and instruction to staff or students, fostering skill development in research techniques.

Qualifications:
  • A Master's degree in health services research, public health, social work, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish, with the ability to read, write, and interpret, is a significant advantage.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, along with strong time-management capabilities.
  • Proficiency in design software for creating presentations and public materials is a plus.

Educational Background:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant social science field, accompanied by two years of applicable experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Required Skills:
  • Thorough understanding of scientific methodologies and principles.
  • Proficient computer skills with a capacity to quickly learn new software.
  • Strong analytical abilities and sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Ability to work under deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication proficiency.
  • Experience working with human study participants.
  • Developing supervisory skills for guiding team members.

Physical and Working Conditions:
  • Regularly perform desk-based tasks, with occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.
  • May require non-standard hours to support research activities.
