Job Summary

Cleveland Clinic is seeking a highly skilled Physicist to join our Radiation Oncology team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing radiological and health physics services to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Equipment Calibration and Configuration: Ensure accurate calibration and configuration of treatment planning and delivery equipment, including linear accelerators, brachytherapy sealed sources, treatment planning computers, dose verification software, and quality assurance and survey equipment.
  • Quality Assurance Program: Participate in a quality assurance program consistent with American Association of Physicists in Medicine recommendations, including monthly and annual quality assurance tests of equipment and weekly checks of patient charts.
  • Treatment Planning and Patient Dosimetry: Collect accurate treatment planning and patient dosimetry data, perform and verify treatment planning calculations, and related patient billing.
  • Research and Compliance: Provide accurate data collection, management, and transmission in support of research protocols selected by department chairman, ensuring compliance with study credentialing requirements.
  • Expert Resource: Act as an expert resource for the Lead Medical Physicist in equipment purchase, selection, and development of new treatment modalities, regulatory compliance, and billing issues.
  • Radiation Protection and Safety: Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations, act as a Certified Radiation Expert, Individual Responsible for Radiation Protection, and/or Radiation Safety Officer as necessary for departments and contracts.
  • Student Supervision: Assist and support the Radiologic student program, providing supervision and feedback to students as they perform procedures, reviewing images with students on request, and providing quarterly evaluations of students to clinical instructors for formal reviews.
  • Education and Training: Complete mandatory education and training to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements, maintaining applicable certification/licensure, and American Board of Radiology (ABR) or American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP) certification.
  • Professional Conduct: Follow hospital and department policies and procedures, with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code, and display of ID badge, and safety.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in medical physics or in a biophysics, or Master's degree in medical physics, biophysics, physics, or closely related field may be substituted for one year required experience.
  • Certifications: ABR or ABMP certification in radiation therapy eligible with full certification preferred.
  • Work Experience: Minimum five years' experience in clinical radiation therapy physics, and minimum three years' experience in applied medical physics, preferably at a medical broad scope licensee, requiring professional-level judgment and involving radiation safety.
