Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Plant Maintenance Mechanic II to join our team at The University of Texas at Austin. As a key member of our Utilities and Energy Management department, you will be responsible for performing skilled work in an electrical generation, mechanical, and electrical utility environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs plant equipment and utility systems.
  • Performs preventive or corrective maintenance tasks incidental to the operation of mechanical, electrical, or utility tunnel distribution systems.
  • Maintains records of equipment repair and works in conjunction with trades or utility personnel in support of systems within power plants, chilling stations, utility tunnels, or other underground utilities.
  • Cleans and maintains all equipment and work areas, identifies, reports, and corrects safety hazards, and updates procedures as necessary.
  • Operates cranes, forklifts, and personnel lifts, inspects, erects, utilizes, and breaks down scaffolding as necessary in support of plant maintenance and operational duties.
Requirements
  • High school graduation or GED.
  • Three years of experience in skilled level repair and maintenance of electrical, industrial, mechanical, or utility distribution equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • More than three years of related skilled level experience in the repair and maintenance of industrial plant mechanical, electrical, or industrial equipment or utility distribution systems.
  • Experience maintaining power plant or similar industrial/utility equipment.
  • Journey level experience in industrial insulation, including fabrication of insulating blankets, thermal insulation, and asbestos handling and abatement.
  • Welding certification in accordance with ASME and industry codes.
  • Experience as a machinist, including fabricating, modifying, and repairing pump, turbine, and boiler parts.
  • Experience in a university plant or utility environment.
  • Experience in using a work order system.
Working Conditions

The selected candidate will work in a fast-paced environment with varying temperatures, humidity, and noise levels. The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb stairs and ladders, and work in confined spaces.
