Overview:
This Healthcare Administrative Officer role is positioned within the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, focusing on the Health Administration Service (HAS). The incumbent is entrusted with the authority to act on behalf of the Medical Center Director and the Chief of HAS regarding administrative functions during non-standard working hours.

Key Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of this position encompass, but are not limited to the following:

  • Exercising delegated authority in medical administrative matters, ensuring compliance with established protocols.
  • Representing management in various administrative functions, particularly concerning the lawful retention of veterans.
  • Providing comprehensive medical administrative support to both clinical and administrative staff during off-hours.
  • Achieving management objectives and supporting decision-making processes.
  • Offering technical guidance to meet procedural, legal, and administrative standards related to patient care.
  • Managing administrative matters surrounding critical incidents, including beneficiary death and emergencies.
  • Assisting in emergency response efforts and determining necessary actions.
  • Maintaining public and media relations as per the directives of the Public Affairs Officer.
  • Conducting analytical assessments on operational processes and special projects as assigned.
  • Reviewing data for trends and providing recommendations to management for issue resolution.
  • Performing additional duties as required.

Promotion Potential:
The selected candidate may be eligible for promotion to the full performance level without further competition upon meeting all regulatory, qualification, and performance criteria.

Work Schedule:
This position operates on a rotating schedule every 90 days, including various shifts.

Conditions of Employment:
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and may be required to complete a probationary period. Participation in health-related vaccination programs is mandatory for all personnel.

Qualifications:
To qualify, candidates must meet specific experience or educational requirements as outlined for the GS-7 and GS-9 levels, including specialized experience in medical center administration or relevant educational credentials.

Physical Requirements:
The role necessitates mobility throughout the medical center and occasional lifting of objects.
