Job Overview

The Army National Guard operates a diverse array of systems essential for the protection and service of its personnel. As a Quartermaster and Chemical Equipment Repairer, your role will be pivotal in ensuring these systems function at optimal levels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the maintenance of chemical decontamination apparatus and quartermaster machinery.
  • Train in the upkeep of laundry and bath equipment, pumps, engines, burners, filter units, and water purification systems.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of specialized equipment, including decontamination and protective filter systems, smoke generator systems, and chemical electrical systems.

Job Duties
  • Service internal combustion engine ignition, fuel, cooling, and electrical systems.
  • Conduct damage assessments and repairs.

Skills Development
  • Gain knowledge in internal combustion engine theory.

Desirable Skills
  • Interest in mechanical work, engine repair, and machinery maintenance.

Through this training, you will acquire the expertise necessary for a rewarding civilian career in sectors such as marine transportation, commercial fishing, oil exploration, or drilling. A future as a marine engine mechanic could be within your reach.

Compensation and Benefits
Instead of incurring costs to learn these skills, you will earn a salary while training. In the Army National Guard, you will receive valuable job training alongside a regular paycheck and eligibility for tuition assistance.

After completing 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you will learn essential soldiering skills, you will proceed to 12 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT). This training will combine hands-on experience and classroom instruction focused on marine engine maintenance, internal combustion engine theory, and the proper use and care of hand and power tools.
