Job Summary

The Department of Justice is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Attorney General Supervisor to join our team. As a key member of our Public Rights Division, you will provide leadership and guidance to a team of subordinate attorneys, paralegals, and support staff. Your expertise in complex civil litigation and hands-on knowledge of the civil litigation process will be invaluable in supporting our state agency clients.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and monitor the work of subordinate attorneys, paralegals, and support staff
  • Evaluate the performance of subordinate attorneys and paralegals
  • Provide training to subordinate attorneys and paralegals
  • Handle general administrative matters
  • Interview and select, or actively participate in the interview and selection process for, subordinate attorneys and paralegals
  • Apply hands-on knowledge to supplement the litigation efforts of existing teams engaged in litigation based on operational needs
  • Personally perform the most difficult and complex legal work related to jury trials, bench trials, writs, appeals, and administrative hearings

Requirements

  • Experience in complex civil litigation and hands-on knowledge of the civil litigation process
  • Ability to provide leadership and guidance to a team of subordinate attorneys, paralegals, and support staff
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Working Conditions

This position requires travel within the state, including to personally mentor and assist deputies who are engaged in trials, depositions, meetings, mediations, and other matters requiring hands-on knowledge of the civil litigation process.
