Behavioral Health Consultant

The Behavioral Health Consultant provides brief, evidence-based assessments and interventions to support functional restoration and improve patient outcomes. This role is part of an integrated care team, working closely with medical and allied health providers to develop clear treatment plans and provide consultation services.
Essential Responsibilities:- Apply biopsychosocial models of human behavior and development to inform treatment plans.
- Provide first-line interventions for a broad spectrum of physical and mental health problems in a time-limited setting.
- Target treatment for mental health concerns, substance abuse, adverse health behaviors, and stress-related physical symptoms.
- Effectively educate patients and families on medical and behavioral treatment plans.
- Utilize electronic health records and verbal communication to concisely share relevant information with medical providers.
- Provide consultation and training to primary care team members on mental health, chemical dependency, and behavioral medicine.
- Demonstrate expertise in discussing psychotropic medications with patients, including indications, effects, and side effects.
- Assess and manage suicidal and homicidal risk, as well as concerns for child or elder abuse and neglect.
- Coordinate with crisis teams, contract police, and Child Protective Services as needed.
- Perform clinical, compliance, and administrative duties related to Medicare billing.
- Minimum two years of post-master's practice experience in applied psychotherapy or integrated behavioral health in a primary care setting.
- Masters degree in social work or a related behavioral health field.
- Primary care behavioral health/collaborative care training as part of master's degree training program or recent integrated care certificate program completion.
- National Provider Identifier (NPI) and Taxonomy code required at time of hire.
- Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced primary care setting, managing multiple competing demands and communicating succinctly.
- Ability to function effectively in an interdisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine patient populations in inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Knowledge of complex systems of psychiatric care and substance abuse treatment at the community and county levels.
- Outstanding communication and organizational skills.
- Bi- or multi-lingual.
