Role Responsibilities:

The RN will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate breastfeeding management for patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, utilizing the nursing process. The role involves providing holistic, evidence-based breastfeeding support and care from preconception through weaning for women and their families. The RN acts as an advocate for breastfeeding as the standard for infant feeding, offering proactive strategies and addressing patient concerns.

The RN will conduct prenatal breastfeeding classes and evaluate educational outcomes, delivering appropriate education to patients and their support systems. Outpatient care, consultations, and home visits will be provided for families facing breastfeeding challenges. The RN will serve as a clinical expert and resource for staff on lactation-related topics, ensuring adherence to current standards of practice. Additionally, the RN will contribute to the development of policies that protect, promote, and support breastfeeding initiatives and participate in educational program development while assessing the educational needs of healthcare providers. The RN will promote the mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, adhering to service behavior standards and performing other assigned duties as needed. Floating to other departments may be required based on business needs, and the RN may also be placed on-call during scheduled shifts.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval (ACLS/NRP/PALS as appropriate for unit or service)
• Certification by the International Board of Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC)
• Two years of recent experience in a maternal/child department.

To successfully perform this role, individuals must demonstrate the ability to meet essential duties satisfactorily. The qualifications listed are representative of the knowledge, skills, education, training, licensure, experience, and/or abilities required. Physical Requirements:

• Ongoing need for visual acuity to read information, labels, and assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies.
• Frequent interactions with patients and care providers require effective verbal communication and the ability to hear and understand spoken information, particularly in emergency situations.
• Manual dexterity is necessary for manipulating complex and delicate equipment accurately.

This includes frequent computer use for documenting patient care and accessing information. The RN is expected to lift and utilize a full range of movement to transfer patients, including bending to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights.

• The role includes assisting with patient transport and obtaining and distributing supplies, which may involve pushing or pulling equipment in busy environments.

• The RN may be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods.


Compensation:

The hourly range for this position is $48.00, dependent on experience.
