Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse Lactation position at Intermountain Healthcare is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of new mothers and their families. As a skilled lactation professional, you will provide expert care and support to patients in various settings, from prenatal to postpartum. Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate breastfeeding management for patients in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Provide holistic, evidence-based breastfeeding support and care from preconception to weaning for women and their families.
  • Act as an advocate for breastfeeding as the child-feeding norm.
  • Conduct prenatal breastfeeding classes and evaluate educational outcomes.
  • Deliver appropriate education for patients and their support systems.
  • Provide outpatient care, consultation, and home visits for families experiencing breastfeeding difficulties.
  • Act as a clinical expert/resource for staff on subjects related to lactation, including current standards of practice.
  • Facilitate the development of policies that protect, promote, and support breastfeeding.
  • Participate in the development of educational programs and assess the educational needs of healthcare providers.
  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Healthcare and abide by service behavior standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval.
  • Certification by the International Board of Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC).
  • Two years of recent maternal/child department experience.
Physical Requirements:
Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).
May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
