We are seeking a highly skilled Rocket Propulsion Systems Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a key member of our propulsion engineering team, you will play a critical role in designing and analyzing rocket propulsion systems for various defense applications.

Job Overview

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in aerospace or mechanical engineering, with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the design and analysis of rocket propulsion systems. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions to complex problems, leveraging your expertise in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.

Salary: $170,000 - $260,000 annually

About the Role
  • Apply propulsion modeling techniques to conceptual and detailed design and development of rocket-based weapon systems.
  • Use physics-based concept design tools to synthesize booster stack and kill vehicle concepts.
  • Perform concept performance assessments at the weapon level, including trajectory simulation and optimization.
  • Work with BMDS system analysts for system level performance evaluations.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • BS degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering (or similar) with 10 years of experience in rocket propulsion systems design and analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of associated phenomenology, including fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.
  • Experience with MATLAB programming and aerospace vehicle design, flight dynamics, and trajectory optimization.
  • Demonstrated self-starter with ability to set direction and work successfully with little supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
