About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Electrochemical Systems Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge space exploration missions and contribute to the development of advanced electrochemical systems.

Job Summary

  • Lead the development of electrochemical systems for multiple space flight programs
  • Collaborate with systems engineers to develop battery requirements based on spacecraft system needs
  • Design and develop electrochemical batteries, including power interfaces, telemetry signals, thermal control, and fault protection
  • Interface with vendors for subcontracted hardware, including cells and electronic components used in the batteries
  • Develop requirements and plans for battery test equipment and coordinate the development of such equipment

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field
  • Five or more years of experience with electrochemical systems development and test
  • Experience with electrical design, analysis, and simulation
  • Experience managing/leading a product development team
  • Experience in electrochemical packaging design and thermal management
  • Familiarity with electrochemical thermal runaway mitigation
  • Able to obtain a Top Secret security clearance
