Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Relations Manager to join our team at Charlotte County, FL. As a key member of our Public Works department, you will be responsible for developing and implementing public relations initiatives, marketing plans, and educational programs to promote our department's activities and projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for our department, responding to media inquiries and providing print and broadcast interviews as needed.
  • Manage relationships with media contacts, develop and implement public relations opportunities, and coordinate public relations activities with our Public Information Officer and department managers.
  • Provide relevant and timely information regarding department activities and projects, prepare and distribute press releases, and maintain and monitor web page and social media accounts.
  • Pursue and maintain professional relationships, act as liaison to outside agencies, and develop industry promotions and partnerships.
  • Manage promotions and collateral distribution efforts, create and distribute brochures, informational handouts, flyers, informational packets, and other collateral materials.
  • Coordinate public outreach programs, attend meetings, and make presentations to community groups, organizations, businesses, and schools.
  • Travel to county departments, meetings, and events pertaining to community outreach initiatives.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in public relations, marketing, or communications.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including public speaking and the ability to develop effective proposals and reports.
  • Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.
  • Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
  • Skill in the use of office equipment, such as a computer, multi-line telephone system, scanner, fax machine, and copier.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of departmental policies, plans, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, plans, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other job-related computer programs and software applications.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of promotion, marketing, and public relations.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of County's budgetary processes.
  • Knowledge of respective industry; knowledge of all media resources used in respective industry.
Working Conditions

This position requires frequent travel to county departments, meetings, and events pertaining to community outreach initiatives. The work environment is relatively safe and secure, with some exposure to environmental changes and irate customers.
