The Hartford is seeking an Agile Program Coordinator (APC) to support our transition to Lean-Agile methodologies.

The primary responsibility of the Agile Program Coordinator within the Personal Lines Technology Organization is to serve as a supportive leader and mentor for one of our Agile Release Trains (ART). This role involves facilitating program-level processes and execution, addressing obstacles, managing risks, and driving ongoing program enhancements.

In addition to leading program events, APCs are tasked with keeping both scrum team members and business and technology leaders informed about progress towards objectives.

Role Purpose


The Agile Program Coordinator focuses on delivering value by managing and facilitating program-level processes, execution, innovation, program dashboard oversight, team integrations, obstacle resolution, risk management, and continuous improvement.


Act as an advocate, mentor, and educator within The Hartford regarding Agile best practices (e.g., epics, capabilities, features, program backlog management, and facilitation, train-level metrics).


Maintain strong connections with external sources to bring in the latest research, data, and tools that can further enhance Agile practices at The Hartford, particularly in enabling built-in quality practices.

Key Responsibilities


- Manage relationships with Product Managers, AVPs, VPs of IT Management, the Lean Portfolio Manager, and other leaders to refine program backlogs.


- Facilitate Agile processes at the program level, including planning periodic reviews and sessions with team and product stakeholders, such as ART Synchronization, Release Planning, System Demos, Solution Demos, Inspect & Adapt Workshops, and Scrum of Scrums.


- Establish and communicate the cadence for Iterations and Program Increments (PIs) aligned with the Business Roadmap.


- Facilitate the prioritization of all work and ensure alignment with the strategic roadmap.


- Collaborate with relevant individuals to translate business strategy into technology strategy, ensuring that necessary capabilities are enabled.


- Maintain scorecards or productivity metrics consistent with Agile governance standards.


- Foster communication and collaboration among Agile teams within the Agile Release Train (ART) and all relevant stakeholders.


- Utilize tools to manage and enhance the flow of value through the ART.


- Manage the program backlog that directs work to the ART.

  • Eliminate barriers and obstacles to ART effectiveness.
  • Identify enterprise-level continuous improvement opportunities and drive their implementation.


- Facilitate PI Planning readiness and PI Planning Events.


- Optimize PI Planning readiness by promoting the preparation of Vision, Backlogs, Roadmap, and Ideation processes.


- Encourage relentless improvement for the ART through continuous improvement opportunities and ART Inspect & Adapt sessions.


- Enhance Agile practices among ART teams and stakeholders.


- Execute the workforce strategy for the workstream(s), including vendor partners, ensuring that ratios of employee/vendor, onshore/offshore, skill, and technology needs are balanced for optimal outcomes.


- Track and communicate key ART metrics, including obstacle resolution, execution progress, and business value delivery.


- Collaborate with IT leadership to define acceptable risk levels and manage/mitigate ART risks and dependencies.


- Report planning results and epic status to senior management, business owners, product owners, and other stakeholders.


- Ensure all teams within the ART adhere to established governance models.


Qualifications:
- 2-3 years of experience as an Agile Program Coordinator
- Previous experience in any aspect of the software development lifecycle – as a developer, tester, analyst, product owner, project manager, etc. is advantageous.
- Experience with Agile toolsets such as Rally.
- Strong communication, facilitation, presentation, and consensus-building skills.
- Working knowledge of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
- Familiarity with Agile frameworks like Scrum, Kanban, XP, etc.
- Understanding of Scrum theory, rules, and practices.
- Knowledge of software development processes and procedures to comprehend team needs; includes fundamentals of iterative and incremental development.
- Familiarity with Agile techniques: User Stories, Continuous Integration, Test-driven Development, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Burn-down Metrics, Velocity, etc.

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market.

Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency, and demonstration of competencies required for the role.

The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.

The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$114,160 - $171,240
