Special Education Educational Support Specialist

OVERVIEW

As a key member of the educational team, the Educational Support Specialist plays a vital role in facilitating learning experiences for students with diverse needs. This position involves direct engagement with students to support their educational journey under the guidance of certified educators.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Educational Support Specialist will:

  • Collaborate with teachers to identify student needs.
  • Assist in the development and execution of tailored educational programs.
  • Monitor and assess student progress and performance.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of instructional strategies and services.
  • Provide direct support in delivering educational content and services as directed by licensed professionals.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:

  • A minimum of an associate degree or equivalent educational credits.
  • A foundational understanding of child development and educational principles.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Effective communication skills with various stakeholders.
  • A commitment to working respectfully with students with special needs.
  • The physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • The ability to follow instructional plans and work independently.
  • Composure in challenging situations.
  • A willingness to undergo training in specific care techniques.
  • Proficiency in computer use and communication via email.
WORKING HOURS

This position entails 5.75 hours of work each school day, accompanied by a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.

This role is governed by the AFSCME contract, ensuring compliance with pay schedules and benefits as outlined within the agreement.
