Job Overview

The Facilities Maintenance Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the operational efficiency of the campus by collaborating closely with the Campus Superintendent and the maintenance department. This position encompasses a variety of maintenance tasks aimed at ensuring the smooth functioning of the facility.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Duties Include:

  • Conducting routine maintenance of the building and surrounding areas, which involves cleaning hallways, kitchens, conference rooms, lobbies, corridors, storage spaces, and other work environments.
  • Cleaning tasks may involve removing waste, vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, dusting, buffing, washing windows, scrubbing floors and ceilings, and sanitizing restrooms.
  • Executing minor repairs and modifications within the facility, such as assembling or relocating furniture, repairing custodial equipment, and performing touch-up painting.
  • Carrying out daily inspections of the grounds and buildings to identify hazards or damage.
  • Completing and submitting work orders for necessary repairs or replacements.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and monitoring restrooms throughout the day to uphold health and safety standards, adhering to sanitation procedures when handling spills.
  • Following security protocols and reporting any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
  • Opening and closing the facility as required for various activities, ensuring security is maintained at all times.
  • Preparing rooms for daily functions, board meetings, events, and special classes, ensuring areas are tidy and furniture is stored appropriately after use.
  • Utilizing daily custodial logs, checklists, and work orders to manage tasks effectively.
  • Receiving, unpacking, storing, and delivering instructional and custodial supplies to designated staff or storage areas, ensuring accuracy in delivery notes and addressing discrepancies as needed.
  • Providing backup assistance for funeral and internment services at the on-site Mausoleum.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by the Campus Superintendent.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Practical knowledge and experience in building maintenance, custodial services, and groundskeeping.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to comprehend work instructions and communicate effectively in English.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to interact and work harmoniously with individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Commitment to workplace safety, following safety regulations, and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Willingness to adhere to organizational policies and departmental procedures.
  • Availability to work nights and weekends as required.
Education and Experience

Required:

  • High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent vocational training.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in custodial work, proficiency in operating custodial equipment, and basic computer skills.
