Unit Mission: To deliver exceptional inpatient care while nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals and enhancing the standards of inpatient healthcare.

Primary Objective of the Role: The Division of Hospital Medicine is in search of an Associate Chair for Research to spearhead the scholarly initiatives within the Division. This includes amplifying quality improvement projects, fostering educational research, and cultivating partnerships with other academic and quality improvement entities within the health system.

Key Responsibilities:

Education: Guide current and future healthcare professionals in scholarly methodologies. Provide mentorship to faculty, trainees, and students regarding research endeavors. Manage the Departmental Summer Scholars Program.

Research Oversight: Direct the research activities of the Division of Hospital Medicine. Collaborate with academic and health system departments to enhance and promote research at the institution. Supervise research personnel within the Division. Seek and secure external funding for research initiatives. Share research findings collaboratively with division members through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.

Service Engagement: Chair the Division of Hospital Medicine Data Committee and other research-oriented committees. Engage in various divisional and departmental service responsibilities.

Clinical Duties: Vary based on whether the selected candidate practices clinically.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree in a relevant field for health services research such as nursing, psychology, public health, health policy, or a related research discipline, or an MD or DO degree with proven research accomplishments.
  • Proven experience in establishing an independent research program.
  • History of securing funding to support research activities.
  • Capacity to collaborate across institutional boundaries to create successful initiatives.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse environment for faculty, staff, and students.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in hospital-based research.
  • Involvement in national or international research collaborations and networks.
  • Proven track record of obtaining federal funding.
