Unit Mission: Deliver exceptional, evidence-driven, and efficient patient care. Foster effective supervision, instruction, and mentorship of Internal Medicine residents and students.

Primary Objective of the Role: Provide direct care for outpatient individuals in the faculty practice. Oversee the treatment provided to outpatient individuals by residents in the training program. Deliver care for hospitalized patients on the general medicine service, collaborating with residents and students. Guide residents in evidence-based medical practices. Collaborate within the Health System and with various departments to enhance the management of both outpatient and inpatient care.

Key Responsibilities:

Education:
Oversee and instruct residents in the outpatient training program. Mentor learners (including medical students, interns, and residents) on the inpatient teaching service.

While on the inpatient teaching service, conduct daily educational rounds utilizing modern adult learning techniques to encourage evidence-based practices.

Exhibit effective teaching capabilities and continually evolve as an educator for learners at all stages. Complete necessary evaluations of learners promptly, including written and verbal feedback. Engage in additional educational activities such as morning reports, core conferences, and other formal training programs for undergraduate and postgraduate learners.

Research:

Engage in clinical and educational research aligned with skills, interests, and available funding (research opportunities may encompass performance improvement initiatives or formally funded investigations).


Service:
Collaborate with institutional staff and administration to achieve the strategic goals of the Health System, including patient safety, customer satisfaction, public perception enhancement, and financial health.

Clinical Duties:

Provide direct clinical services to both outpatient and inpatient individuals, with the distribution of time between outpatient and inpatient settings determined by mutual agreement with the Division Chair.

Participate in night and weekend on-call responsibilities (telephone only; no in-hospital duties), shared among faculty members. Adhere to all institutional policies regarding professional conduct, including credentialing, documentation, and billing. Work collaboratively with other members of the inter-professional team.

Required Qualifications: Board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine. Direct experience managing complex hospitalized patients.
A commitment to teaching and growth within an academic environment. A dedication to advancing the academic mission of the Division.

Experience in fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or a commitment to doing so as a faculty member. Proven ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
