Unit Mission: The Division of Hospital Medicine collaborates with various pediatric medical and surgical experts to deliver comprehensive care for children facing acute or chronic health challenges, as well as those with unique healthcare requirements. Pediatric Hospital Medicine is vital to the educational initiatives within the Department of Pediatrics, including training for medical students, residents, and support staff. The division actively participates in quality and safety projects through independent research and committee involvement, playing a crucial role in advancing the strategic objectives of the organization.

Primary Objective of the Role: The Children's Hospital of Richmond is seeking a dedicated academic faculty member for the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine. This role emphasizes a commitment to high-quality patient care and service excellence, aiming to enhance the in-hospital faculty presence for improved clinical care, educational experiences for medical students and residents, and increased patient safety through effective supervision during critical situations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. **Education:** The physician will mentor and instruct medical students, residents, and fellows as appropriate, and provide necessary training to ancillary staff.

2. **Service Engagement:** The physician will participate in departmental committees and engage in professional activities, including journal reviews, conference presentations, and involvement in national organizations.

3. **Clinical Duties:** The physician will deliver clinical services as a Pediatric Hospitalist, fulfilling the required evening, night, weekend shifts, and on-call responsibilities as determined by the Division Chief to ensure adequate coverage of pediatric and newborn units.

4. **Administrative Responsibilities:** The physician will undertake administrative tasks associated with this position, including:
Participation in Pediatric Committees Coordination with Pediatric Nursing, Specialists, and Surgeons as necessary Collaboration with the Director of Pediatric Hospital Medicine to align clinical services Engagement with academic missions for learners within the institution Outreach to Pediatric Providers in the surrounding region Required Qualifications:
Board certification in pediatrics or internal medicine-pediatrics is mandatory Eligibility for medical licensure in Virginia is required Drug Enforcement Agency licensure is necessary Credentialing at the institution is essential Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is required Proven experience in fostering a diverse and inclusive environment among staff, residents, and students Preferred Qualifications:
At least two years of clinical experience in pediatric hospital medicine Completion of Pediatric Fellowship training is preferred but not mandatory Progressing towards Board Eligibility/Board Certification in Pediatric Hospital Medicine Current board certification in pediatric hospital medicine is preferred Experience in leadership or program development within pediatric hospital medicine Prior involvement in quality improvement initiatives
