GENERAL OVERVIEW

Educational Assistants support the educational staff with professional responsibilities and are accountable for specific tasks as designated by the building principal.

Responsibilities typically include roles such as library aide, lunchroom supervision, playground monitoring, clerical support, and lunchroom cashiering.

Assistants may be called upon to supervise classrooms briefly in the absence of a certified teacher; however, their role is to support and enhance student learning rather than introduce new concepts.

Specific duties may encompass one or more of the following tasks:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Collaborate with students or groups to reinforce learning materials or skills initially presented by the teacher.

B. Evaluate workbooks or assignments, record grades, attendance, and other routine student information.

C. Aid in duplicating, assembling, or preparing instructional materials for the classroom.

D. Clerical aides will assist the building secretary with administrative tasks.

E. Cashier aides will collect daily lunch payments and manage lunch ticket sales, prepare bank deposits, and maintain records for the Food Service Office.

F. Communicate with parents to gather and relay student information.

TRAINING, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

A. High school diploma or GED with 48 credit hours from an accredited institution; or
  • Associate's degree (or higher); or
  • Pass a state-approved assessment demonstrating the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
B. Proficiency in general typing and office skills.

C. Ability to operate standard office equipment, including photocopiers, fax machines, computers, and perform filing tasks.

*Candidates without 48 college credit hours may take the Paraprofessional test to qualify for this position, with reimbursement available upon proof of passing.

  • Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate or an Associate of Arts (A.A.) in early childhood education or a related field is preferred.
