Job Summary

The University of Houston is seeking a highly skilled Marketing Director to join our team. As a key member of our marketing department, you will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive marketing and communication programs to support the university's strategic goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Brand Management
    • Develop and oversee the implementation of a brand strategy that balances high-level consistent messaging with promoting specific programs and services.
    • Ensure alignment with the university's branding and marketing standards.
  • Marketing and Communications Plan
    • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive marketing and communication plan in collaboration with the marketing leadership team and other stakeholders.
    • Refine and implement a three-level model of marketing and communications that includes university-level messaging, department-level messaging, and program-level messaging.
  • Campaigns
    • Oversee the development and execution of marketing and communications campaigns to promote health and wellness education, awareness, promotion, engagement, caring, and celebration.
    • Apply best practices in health and wellness education and promotion, including social norming.
  • Mediums
    • Lead the development and execution of strategy for deploying marketing and communications tools, including websites, social media, advertising, and promotional materials.
    • Oversee the design and production of marketing and communications materials, including writing, graphic design, digital production, media content, printing, and other publication-related services.
  • Collaboration
    • Cultivate partnerships with internal and external partners to ensure the success of the marketing and communications strategy.
    • Assist with the design and execution of strategic marketing partnerships and sponsorship programs.
  • Assessment and Storytelling
    • Administer marketing assessments and contribute to departmental assessments to evaluate marketing and communications strategies.
    • Maintain records and create various reports, including semi-annual and annual reports.
    • Gather information and ensure the telling of powerful success stories of those served and the programs and services that are helping to create health and wellbeing at the university.
  • Staffing and Resources
    • Determine appropriate staffing needs for supporting marketing and communications strategies while providing opportunities for student learning and development.
    • Recruit, select, supervise, and mentor student staff, including interns, peer educators, and graduate assistants.
    • Coordinate work among marketing and communications colleagues.
    • Monitor budget and expenses, equipment inventory, supplies, promotional items, materials, and make recommendations for purchases.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree and at least five years of directly related experience. A thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of marketing and communications is required. The candidate should have knowledge of the discipline, normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4-year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program.
