Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Certified Orthotic Technician to join our team at the University of Virginia. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing technical support to our ABC credentialed individuals, ensuring the highest level of patient care and satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess orthotic and/or prosthetic technical requirements and formulate fabrication requirements within the established treatment plan.
  • Verify documentation, consult with manufacturing professionals, and analyze structural and design needs for implementation.
  • Develop device-specific functional goals and implement fabrication requirements, including application of physical data, modification and/or rectification of physical data, material selection, fabrication, structural evaluation, and compliance with component selection and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Utilize a follow-up treatment plan to ensure successful fabrication outcomes, including documentation of structural changes, formulation of modifications to ensure successful outcomes, and development of long-term service plans.
  • Comply with practice management plans, policies, and procedures, including adherence to applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations, following patient care guidelines and procedures, maintaining a safe and professional environment, and performing applicable machine maintenance and calibration.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; completion of National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE) Technician education program preferred.
  • At least two years of experience with design and production of prosthetic and orthotic devices or completion of a 2-year NCOPE accredited orthotic-prosthetic technical education program.
  • Certification as an ABC Certified Orthotic and/or Prosthetic Technician required.
Physical Demands

The successful candidate will be required to stand on tile over concrete to complete most tasks during each day, frequently bend, stoop, walk, and reach. They will work with hand tools and power tools, including cast saws, band saws, belt grinders, and drills, and with materials such as metal, aluminum, carbon fiber, cork, foam, plaster, epoxy, glues, and thinner. They will also be required to lift items such as plaster molds and bags of plaster, which could weigh up to and exceeding 50 lbs.
