Role Overview: The Certified Central Sterile Technician is responsible for the essential processes of decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, sterilizing, storing, and distributing reusable surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage ordering, receiving, and conducting inventory counts.
  • Prepare surgical trays and equipment according to established protocols for sterilization and storage.
  • Monitor and document sterilization parameters for various sterilizers (e.g., ETO, Steam, Steris, Sterrad).
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the storeroom, ensuring all items are correctly stored and verified for expiration.
  • Utilize departmental bar code systems to track surgical trays and instruments throughout the processing cycle.
  • Serve as a mentor in the primary work area, assisting in training and development.
  • Engage in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience in Sterile Processing is required.
  • Licensure: Certification as CRCST (Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician) through HSPA or CSPDT (Central Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician) through CBSPD.

Physical Requirements: The role requires prolonged periods of sitting and standing, frequent bending, stooping, and reaching. Candidates must possess strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to lift/push/pull 25-50 lbs. The work environment may involve exposure to fumes, chemicals, and infectious materials.
